When legendary rock band Papa Roach reached out to AFSP, eager to donate a portion of proceeds from their latest tour for a cause they deeply care about, neither organization knew the depth of the partnership they were about to embark on. The band’s recent song Leave a Light On was a heartfelt ballad about looking out for friends who are struggling –– and coincided perfectly with AFSP’s national Talk Away the Dark campaign. The result was a creative collaboration on a beautiful onstage concert sequence in which lead singer Jacoby Shaddix delivered a heartfelt message about the importance of suicide prevention, and legions of fans holding their phone lights up in darkened stadiums across the world.
The song –– retitled Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark) –– reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and was then re-recorded as a duet with Grammy-winning superstar Carrie Underwood, reaching a whole new audience for both artists and landing at #1 on multiple charts.
The band has continued to work with AFSP, through co-branded merchandise; guidance on safe messaging; an appearance on Celebrity Family Feud (competing against Daughtry with both bands playing for AFSP); and local AFSP chapters in attendance throughout their next worldwide tour, sending the message that we can all leave a light on for those in crisis.
